How do I set up my router for G.fast?
G.fast on the Vision Network uses IPoE (IP over Ethernet) with DHCP, which means your router simply needs to be set to request an IP address automatically. There is no username or password required, unlike PPPoE-based services such as nbn FTTN.
Recommended router settings
| Setting | Value |
|---|
| WAN connection type | DHCP / Dynamic IP |
| Username / Password | Not required |
| MTU | 1500 |
| VLAN ID | Not required |
| IPv6 | Supported natively — enable DHCPv6 or SLAAC on your router if available |
Most modern routers are configured for DHCP by default and will connect without any changes needed. If your router has a specific mode for NBN or fibre connections, select that and ensure the connection type is set to DHCP rather than PPPoE.
If your router is not getting an IP address
If your router is set correctly but is not receiving an IP address, try the following:
- Check that the ethernet cable is connected to the WAN or Internet port on your router, not a LAN port.
- Confirm the cable runs from your router to the Vision Network NTU installed at your premises.
- Power cycle the NTU and router — turn both off, wait 30 seconds, turn the NTU on first and wait for it to sync, then turn the router on.
- If the issue persists, contact our support team and we can check the connection from our end.
